Hi Derek, I showed as much restraint as possible. Kept the car below 4500rpm except for a couple of times overtaking slower traffic. There has been quite a bit of full throttle action though.

Doesn't the exhaust sound great as well. Anyone know of any tunnels I can drive through in the Midlands?

I seem to get a backfire when I change from 1st to 2nd. This is normal and not a problem then?

Hi Andrew,

Is yours an R56 Mini 'S' ? If so then I get no backfire from mine when changing any gears!

The 'backfire noise' is normally associated to cars fitted with a Supercharger, whereas the new Mini 'S' has a Turbocharger.

If I accelerate quite hard in 1st then change gear I hear a slight thud/popping sound. I don't hear it in any other gears, maybe drowned out by road noise at higher speeds perhaps. Maybe it has something to do with the air recirculation from the dump valve.

Well it's at the dealers but held up in the upgrade queue which means it needs a software update before I'm allowed to have it. I was meant to pick it up this morning but I got the phone call from the dealers at about 3.00pm yesterday. I was a tad peeved but now I'm thinking it might be a blessing in disguise as the weather is pants today and Monday is looking better.
I took my daughter who didn't know we were getting it so she was pleased even more so when she realised it was a MCS this time and not another MO(no offence to any MO owners I am still one myself at the moment)

Yes Derek, I noticed when you got yours and I posted to say it was similar to what I have specced. I've got the sunroof ,the piano black dash,Hi Fi, Height adjustable passenger seat, interior light pack and some works mats. I've got some 18" R95 replicas to go on as well. The dealers have offered to do a KDS (the steering limiters and something else which currently escapes me) for £120. Question 1. Do I really need it doing.?Question 2. If so, is £120 about the right price to pay?

I'm getting a little impatient
The dealer said they are hoping it's a five or ten minute job to update but I read on here somewhere about the new works kit software taking someone about 8 hrs to upload

Lets hope it's the first option.

Hi ZYO
1 i think i have seen details on this posted by Miniac from US re limiters needed only on certian wheel tyre combinations have a look on the site if i find will post link.

2 cost i dont think the limters are that expensive if you check the part number along with wheels for JCW, but no idea how they fir to steering so would not know how long it would take, ask the dealer of time scale, and how easy to fit as may be able to do your self. I think your car will look great with the 18" wheels and lets hope its option 1 with the re programing

zyo ...

MINI recommends fitting the steering limiter on OEM 18" wheels because of their 52mm offset.

What is the offset (and width) of your R95 replicas?

On the advert for the wheels it states the offset as 48, i checked this against the real R95's which as you say is 52. I thought this was odd that they hadn't gone with the same offset but when they arrived I checked and cast on the back of the wheel it states that the offset is indeed 52 as per the original..

The width is 7J.

interestingly the wheels come with 215/35/18's but I wanted the correct profile so I asked for a 215/40/18. I was hoping that the 215 would give me a litlle extra shoulder over the original 205 size to stop kerbing but it hasn't given me as much as I would have hoped. Some tyres I know come with a protecting band/strip the Falkens I have unfortunately don't ...I'll have to be really really careful. My problem is I live on a narrow road and most kerb marks I recieve are from me trying to avoid someone else who is too far over and generally going too fast.

Helllooooo...I thought I would post a piccy of my new MINI with it's R95 replicas on. Although I say it myself I think it looks great. I'm really pleased with it as currently it's averaging 33.8mpg whereas my old MO was doing about 32.8 at the last check. How do you drive it slowly for running in purposes cos it's damn addictive?Stop start is impressive in my opinion and works well and relatively seamlessly. The sport button nicely weights the steering which normally is a but light for my liking and the throttle is so much sharper. The sport button was a suprise cos on my test drive I forgot to use it.
The Hi Fi is a nice suprise as it is much better than I anticipated and I think i prefer it to my previous HK
Surely they must have changed the speakers for the later models cos people had been describing horror stories and this isn't the case with mine, it handles bass fine and I've got it on full.
The ride on the 16's was really good but it's the 18's that have been a revalation, there is hardly any difference in ride quality and more importantly they look great (IMO)
Piccies attached.....p.s. I've just noticed that there are wheely bins in the background of the first shot......is not an accident i put them there for artistic effect... honest

Cheers japper, I'm well pleased with it. It's quiet but at the same time the exhaust sounds great and so much better than I remember from the test drive.Nothing is rattling and everything is good. I'm hoping it stays that way. All that and better consumption than my MO and £115 road tax... which also meant the dealer owed me £25 cos they'd charged me £140
