Passenger airbag deactivated!

My R56 was at the dealers at the end of last week for a minor fix, but since getting it back, the 'passenger airbag de-activated' light comes on when starting the ignition. I've had a look in the manual and it mentions turning the key thingy at the side of the steering column. Also, it's got a round black casing on it, so I don't know if this is just a blank or whether there is actually something underneath to turn. Didn't want to hack on with it too much in case I scraped the dash flipping the cover plate off! Any advice before I go ahead and try to remove?

isn't the "key thingy" on the passenger end of the dashboard, visible when the door is open, and not on the steering column? Also is the "deactivated" light staying on all the time, or just coming on when the ignition comes on, and then going off?

I haven't looked for the key thingy, it's on my to do list but the light only comes on for a few seconds when I turn the ignition on, then goes off and stays off.

That is what should happen.

Just like all the other things that light up when you start the car, the light lights to tell you the light is OK

As long as it goes off after a few seconds all is OK.

If it stays on, it means the airbag is disabled or perhaps there is a fault.

Cheers Ken, I was hoping that's what it was. That's why it was only on my 'to do' list rather than my 'oh my God' list (not that I have one of those though!)

I'm sure mine didn't do this before it went back to the dealer tho. Maybe I just hadn't noticed!

If the passenger airbag light stays lit, ie. deactivated, you can set it to activated by opening the passenger door and on the end of the dashboard is a rotating switch. Just turn the switch to the desired setting.

Hope this helps.
