Offline | R56 Problems? Hi All, I'm curious from reading all these threads about the problems of the r56. Seems like there are a lot of problems with the gear boxes, sat/nav pixels, automatic headlights and rear view mirror, cruise control, and ipod adaptor. So if I have an automatic MCS without sat/nav, automatic headlights and rear view mirror, cruise control, or ipod adaptor then does this mean I have a better chance of getting an r56 without all these problems? There aren't many issues with the automatic transmission are there? |

Offline | A do not really think there are "a lot" of people with problems in terms of the thousands of R56 MINIs sold. The numbers reporting SatNav problems (1?), IPOD (dealer installed), rear view mirror probs etc is low. Auto-headlights are often a problem. People on the VW forum also complain they are too sensitive. On my Golf, they went on if you went under a bridge or in the shadow of trees. There are probably very few, if any, auto issues as hardly anyone outside the US wants an auto MINI. Red/Black R56 Cooper |

Offline | Me too!! I've had my R56 4 months now and no real problems to speak of (touches wood ) Go for it and order one to the spec that you really want!! As this is an owners forum you will always see problems discussed, this does not mean that there is a major problem with the R56 ![]() |

Offline | Most of the problem people have mentioned are minor. I have not read one mechanical problem aside from strange engine noise(characteristic of direct injection engine) and gear shifting problem(limited to manual only). Many were exaggerated by R53 owners, especially one named "CooperS4Us" from Florida. Such a loser. I have ordered almost exactly the same thing you have and I have done some extensive studies on the mechanics of new new mini. The auto transmission is from japan, can't recall the name but it is a very well respected company that supplies transmission to other japanese car companies. I have a question regarding the turbos: Does the electric pump that cools down the turbos stay on after a hard use even if you have shut down the car? I have looked the engine manual released by Renault and BMW but it wasn't clear. |

BMW co-designed the engine with the PSA group which is Peugeot/Citroen not Renault cheers Den |

Offline | The Auto tranny is from AISIN, a supplier of many car manufacturers, among them are Audi, Porsche and Toyota/Lexus. Also is the only company (at the moment) that builds a 6-gear auto for FWD cars and has also designed and built the 8-gear Auto (first of its kind!!) for the new Lexus. Also, if I remember correctly Toyota has about 10% of AISIN....so I would say all in all a quite reputable and reliable company. ![]() Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius. |

Offline | Thank you for the information, and I apologize for mixing up the French auto-companies. Here is the PDF link for the engines: http://www.psa-peugeot-citroen.com/d...1103281940.pdf After I turned my car off the other day I could hear an electric pump sound so I'm guessing that the turbo is cooled after shutting the engine down. Offline | I'm glad that are no major problems. I'm glad I didn't order those things that people are complaining about either. I can't wait to pick my Mini up. I had no idea the engines were being made by such a prestige company. This makes me feel much more secure. |

Offline | Thanks for your kind reply. I love new technology.....guess I don't have to worry so much about cooling down the turbos by keeping the car running in idle.
