Offline | MCS brake dust Hi peeps After driving our MCS for a few weeks now ive noticed what id say is lots of brake dust.........we havnt been driving it hard "yet" and neither of us are heavy on brakes anyway!! Ive had many fast cars in the past and not come across so much brake dust from general use....?? Even driving around town the front alloys will be quite "dusty" in a quite a short amount of time... Has anyone else found this with their R56.....?? Cheers Ken |

Offline | Yup, me too. I still enjoy washing the car every week so I don't really mind scrubbing the rims while I'm at it. They might be dusty but they are great breaks. The pads on my RSX produced very little dust, but they had no bite at all. I prefer dust over not stopping. ![]() |

Offline | My MCS has 17" Crown Wheels and brake dust comes off quite easily using warm soapy water and a soft brush. My previous Honda Type-R had 17" alloys, but the surface was not smooth. Consequently the only way to clean them was using Turtle Wax Alloy Wheel Cleaner. This involved spraying the solvent, then rinsing with a water pressure jet....then had to use a paint brush. Quite a long unpleasant job! |

Offline | How long do a front set of pads last?? It's like asking how "long is a piece of string?". Very difficult to answer because it depends on style of driving, average speed and whether you use engine braking or not. When I sold the Honda Type-R at 20,000 miles, it was still on the original pads front/rear....but I use engine braking a lot. |

Offline | So much brake dust on my Web-spokes make them look like gunmetal gray! I used a product called Wheel Wax on my rims..I forget the brand. It's like wax for your MINI, but on the wheels. You have to apply, wait for hazing, then buff. Two layers, and your wheels will be easier to clean! I've only had to brush with a steady stream of water since then. |

Offline | The first few weeks after delivery of my new MCS was a nightmare with the amount of brakedust accumulating on the rims. After three months behind the wheels, it seems the pads have been slowly worked into and the amount of dust is for sure getting less. There is no 100% remedy but one way or two would be changing break pads or get yourself some grooved barke discs. Btw, do not leave the brake dust too long on the rims as I heard that they are corrosive and can slowly eat into the metal or that precious paint work! |

Offline | There are lots of specific products around to protect your wheels and make them more easy to clean. Before going out and buying one of these, you could try using your normal paintwork wax/sealant LSP to see if that works. I use the Klass twins on virtually everything - paint, wheels, glass, plastic light covers and find it does the job fine. |
