Used R56 Cooper S + Chili only £16k from a dealer

Spotted this :

MINI Cherished

How can this possibly be good for residual values of the new car?

Looking at the spec of that car, it must have been > £20,000 only 8 months ago.

The person who sold it to the dealership must have gotten about £14k for it ..........

Not good

Yes it's funny how when you are in the precess of ordering you are told that certain items will help the resale but when you trade in you are told that you don't get anything back on the options you have specced and they are not really worth anything.

Apart from metallic paint and a colour line, what extras does this car have to take it to £20k?

I think this would have been £18.5k max.

Forgot to say, residuals are not mince. One of the biggest car lease companies confirmed (Autoexpress last week) that MINI is THE best performing car for residuals

Thats what I thought. Only about £18.5k brand new. Still the owner would have got around £14500 trade in if lucky. Maybe it was a reject and the owner would have got a brand new one as a replacement. Isn't this what they do with rejections, sell them on to other people?

Has it occurred to anyone that this car is most likely a demonstrator, so is cheap because the dealer wants rid of it?

Can't see any serious depreciation here! The car is very early production very basic spec and has been priced to sell. Personally I would rather beg borrow or steal the extra few thousand needed and buy a brand spanking new one which would have an extra 9 months to run on the warranty side, zero wear & tear and of course the very latest engine mods and general improvements for MY08. No brainer really unless every single penny counts and 16K+ is your max budget

The major point is its 8 months old, anyone who sells after that short a period of time must expect to take a big hit. As you say if it was 18.5k new and was up at 16.5k no one would buy as everyone would buy new. Its just economics, that is why the only real idea you get on resales is after 3 years. If you sell before it will be a much bigger hit. Well in my humble opinion.
