A new top speed of 156mph?

I've heard and read rumours that BMW may have under estimated the performance of the R56 MCS? Do we have proof of this, we might have now?

Go onto www.youtube.com and search for "R56 top speed" and check out the top speed of the R56 at an unbelieveable 253kph, even with my bad maths that's a top speed of 156mph !!! No wonder there is an aero kit available, it needs it !!!

So standard or modified, what do we think?

What's MINI quoted figure....................138mph ?

If so then i don't think this is too far off if it was a GPS based readout as the speedo will be reading up to around 8% out at that speed. It may have been slightly downhill and with a tail wind too.

More importantly, is anyone else in the slightest bit worried that this idiot appears to be doing circa 150mph whilst recording his speedo with the camera on his mobile phone whilst driving?

i seen this stunt before with other cars i think is highly stupid to be recording your speedo while doing those kind of speeds the person driving clearly isnt paying attention to the road and doesnt deserve a MCS

Where ever the speed was recorded, it wasn't the M25!

it's not so much the speed that's the issue, as there are clearly places where it is legal, but the lack of concentration and control whilst recording it!

Agree, but if on a track then he's less likely to involve an innocent motorist should he lose control.

I wouldn't believe the readings unless it was backed up with proper timing equipment over a set distance, calibrated speedo's or professional equipment.

Bare In Mind that
Speedos overread, rough rule of thumb is about 10% but will vary between cars (ie circa 140mph real world very close to the official figures

GPS based speeds are inaccurate if any gradients are involved unless you have spent a lot of money on professional equipment not a £150 Garmin unit from Halfrauds

I was having a play around on YouTube the other night looking for Mini vids also and on one they had done tests on a 1/4 mile drag comparing the Auto and the manual andthe Auto came in faster every time.

Now I know that historically auto's are supposed to be slower than manuals but could this be the case now that auto's are that efficient etc that they are overtaking the manuals (parden the pun!) I am aware the official BMW stats still say that the auto is slower but just wondered what you guys thought?!....I am not very mechanically savvy...

The only way the Auto would / could win is probably down to two factors...........driver and more importantly..........gearing. The Auto probably has lower ratios in 1st and second to get to 60 quicker.

Just my 2p worth

Yep.

Hope that was a nice empty track, not a road.

Speedos are notoriously out .... @ 70 mph by GPS my S speedo reads 76! Thats a lot of miles out!

GPS is the only real measure as car speedos are usually pap the faster you go....Oh and I'm sure it was on an airfield or oval

I have to agree the chances are its not right speed reading, not a private track/road and not clever :shakeshead:

First, the MINI has a top speed cap of 138 so unless you actually flash the ECU to remove it, you are not going to get much or anymore power out of the car at that speed. Once that cap is removed, it is very possible to hit that speed. I have been up to 140 mph in my MCS on the Autobahn.
