United-Kingdom Exhaust "pop" and "burble"......

Well. had me new r56 S for 3 full days now and extremely impressed. Had an R53 S before and loved that but this is something else...

I've noticed (and i aint complaining!) that when i go from 1st to 2nd gear, the exhaust omitts a "pop" or a "burble".....sounds fab, but does anyone elses do this? I know my old R53 used to do it at 6000rpm!!!!

Cheers,

Matt

Yes i like it to but i suspect by the soot coming out the tail pipes that mixture a bit strong and more deposits than my 330D BM this is where i think we get this noise from if you ask me

My standard MCS does this but it does it alot more when i have BP ultimate 95 in the tank. T

he pop and burble is a lot louder on my R56 but it does not occur as often like the R53.

MINI, it is a way of life.

Near my home the road goes under a railway bridge and up a hill, and there are traffic lights at the approach. If the lights are on Red, then I put the window down, engage 1st blast off on green, then change to 2nd quicklly .....and I can hear a lovely burbling pop from the exhaust that echoes in the tunnel

Ive actually quite a nice 'burble' on my R56 cooper. Went in an R56 S yesterday, didn't really take much notice of the exhaust, was too busy holding on - how quick are they?!!!

You will get an exhaust growl from the Cooper, but you will only get the 'pop' as well with the 'S' because of the Turbocharger.

The earlier MCS's with a Supercharger are pleasantly noisier because: -

a) They have a different engine
b) The design difference between Superchargers and Turbochargers

Yep mine does it... I would have taken it back and rejected it if it didn't !

The best thing is that it sounds a damn sight louder from outside.... GREAT

I always make sure to rev a bit harder just so i can hear it!!

anyone noticed the whooshing sound you get when you change gear after high revving?

almost like the sound you get from dump valves (i think thats what they're called?!), but not as loud. i can only hear mine when the window is open though.

Lots of "burble" on my 2007 JCW Convertible, and I just love it (especially with the roof down), but there is no "pop", not at 4500rpm, nowhere!

Any suggestions how I could check that everything is okay? Something seems to prevent the "pop"...

I get very loud pops and bangs in my R56 MCS, sounds brilliant.. I normally get the loudest bang if I keep the engine under 3k rpm until about 10 mins of driving (by which time the engine is warmer) then when I next pull away go up to 4k rpm and I get a very loud bang.

Same thing for me as for Nath - quite early on, depending on the revs - a good sound to have though
I am using Shell V-power, 99 octane for my Laser Blue S

I used to get it on my R56 MCS as well and I love it, sounds like my own little race car (only not too loud).

Now that I have the JCW kit fitted it is even more noticeable, sounds great and surprised me the first time it happened with the new exhaust. If you like the sound, get the JCW kit, the sound alone is worth the money.

I love the MINI sound, best 4 cyl turbo I have ever heard (best bit is we own one).
