Steering very light/jerks

Hi everyone

Myself and partner have recently purchased an Astro Black R56. We previously owned a Mino One and, in the whole, are very happy with our purchase

However, we have noticed with a new car a worrying amount of what I think is torque steer. Basically the car almost has a mind of its own and at times the steering will suddenly jerk, almost taking the car off course. The steering is obviously lighter with the sports button off, so I thought with the sports button pressed it may be easier to control. This does seem to help but yesterday the same things happened and it is slightly worrying.

Does anyone know if there is something we can get done to the car to comabt this, or am I just being overly cautious?

Thanks

Yes it's torque steer. You do get used to it after a while, although it still catches me out sometimes

I have found that as the car seems to settle down on the suspension with age, it seems to become less pronounced so that you don't seem to notice it. it is a bit bad at first though.

If you don't want / can cope with torque steer and want a pretty quick car..............................your only option is rear wheel drive

Seriously, considering the amount of torque and outright performance the MCS has ( even more so my works ) the torque steer is not bad at all.

Try a golf tdi 150 and you'll know what real torque steer is

Do you have the LSD?,

it's might not actually be torque steer, which only comes into effect under acceleration, when you feel the car pulling from side to side as you accelerate.

it may be the fact that you obviously have much harder suspension and low profile, wider, and larger wheels than on your previous car.

you will find that the car tends to follow the camber and any defect in the road surface much more readily, especially when negotiating a bend !!

it will either be one of the above, or a combination of both that you are experiencing.

do you feel it under acceleration ? or just under normal driving ?

Many thanks for the responses everyone. We do not have LSD at the moment

In response to your question Iain - Yes it does seem to be mainly when accelerating I must admit. I guess it was quite a change for us and maybe that is why I have noticed it a bit more. There have been a few occasions when it does seem to move off when but as you pointed it this may be because of the road etc. At no time do we not feel in control and I have pretty much got used to it already but wasnt sure if it was anything out of the ordinary

Overall though, I love the car

Yeah if it's under hard acceleration and no LSD then it's torque steer. If it's under braking or normal driving then it's tramlining.

Blasted crappy british roads
