Cool The dreaded MPG question - Sorry!

Hi guys and gals, i'm looking at upgrading my '02 cooper works to a R56 S. Currently i'm getting, if i'm lucky 34mpg in combined driving... which is about 300 miles per tank... I was wondering what you R56 S owners are getting!?!?

Cheers

The new R56 is extremly economical for their power delivery. If driven nicely (cruise control on at 70mph all M/Way) I can achieve 500 miles per tank, (Approx 55 Litre Tank), avergaes out to about 48MPG on M/Ways, when you start gunning it MPG drops to around 30-35MPG and round town you can achieve later 30`s early 40`s MPG.

I previously owned an R53, never use to obtain more than 35MPG on the M/Way.

After the R53 I use to run the Golf 2.0 TDI, MPG seems to be approx the same although I know have 175PS on tap not 140PS. If driven correctly you can achieve just as near MPG as the larger diesels out there.

Mine is crrently doing about 30/31mpg...all around town driving. It was about 33/34mpg when the weather was warmer and the stop /start was doing it's stuff. As a comparison my two previous MINI ONE's were doing about 30/31mpg in the summer and in the winter were normally under 30mpg. So put it this way...it is cheaper on fuel, and with the road tax of the new 08 model R56 being £115 it is considerably cheaper to tax as well.

....it costs a little more than a one though

40.2 mpg, 76 mile round-trip commute (A21 + M25 + A20 + 5 miles in outer London) 4 days a week + weekend pootling. Sport off, Cruise control on on the dual carriageways, never go above 80. "Pootling" tends to involve more flexing of the right ankle.

Can get 99.9 mpg from petrol station to house, so long as I coast the Lamberhurst bypass

Hi there

34mpg all day every day around town

and 45mpg going from Cleethorpes to Norwich and back.......250 miles round trip mostly on A roads doing anything between 40 - 70 mph.

The car only had 2500miles on the clock at the time!!!
Very good considering the performance!

We have an R56 Cooper S with the JCW stage 1 tuning kit and according to the onboard computor we're getting 35.9 mpg average when Tara drives it. I get about 28 mpg average when I drive it, but I have a size 14 lead foot!!!

The best I've managed is 51mpg over about 60 miles. However that is the OBC readout and I haven't had the chance to verify the accuracy of the car's readout with the actual mpg. That's already better than my record in my 1st generation MC which was 50mpg (although that was measured pump to pump).

36.5 mpg over about 3500 miles, recording the actual miles & gallons so it it's an accurate reading. Thats with a variety of speeds & conditions.

hi,

This is an interesting thread - I have managed 360 miles to a full tank over yesterday and today mainly motorway with about 50 miles in town traffic. One question I have and it's slightly off topic so I apologise but is the trip computer standard or is it an option? I've not been able to locate it and the baffoons in the dealership can't even tell you what day it is!! When the red fuel warning light comes you get a range reading so I am thinking there must be a computer

Help please?! Oh and I have an auto so naturally I expect lower mpg.

I believe it comes with the Chili pack - I may be wrong though.

There is a button on the tip of the left (indicator) stalk, if you depress it, the display on the rev counter will flick through the menu items of the on board computer.

My July 07 MCS is recording 36.7 mpg from new over a total mileage of 4K to date. Virtually the same as above

A lot better compared to my previous Civic Type-R which averaged about 25 mpg

Got my car Dec 14 with 4 miles on it and was averaging around 27mpg to start but now, at 800 miles into the break-in period, am at 32.0 mpg. Pretty good considering I'm learning manual transmission and stalled a lot during the 1st week!

Outside temps have held right around the freezing point, and average mpg is going up by 0.1 to 0.2 mpg each day (even on Saturday, when I was helping a friend move and was making hilly, curvy trips back and forth with full loads all day).

This time of the year engine uses choke for a longer period which would reduce the MPG.
