Offline | Adding sport button on early R56 S My R56 S is manufactured in october 2006 and therefore made without the sport button. I testdrove a Clubman S with this feature and I liked it, making the throttle more sensitive and the steering a little firmer ![]() Does anybody know if there is a possibility to upgrade my car to have sport button as an aftermarket gadget and at what cost (approx), or is it very expensive so it is not worth the penny? I know that the boost is not more than 175 bhp (as stated in another thread), but I liked the earlier response and the fact that the steering wheel had a better feel when you went faster ![]() |

Offline | As you say the sport button adjusts both the throttle sensitivity and the steering assistance but does not increase power. Some have said the sport mode needs to be enabled in order to achieve overboost but this is not true, and especially cannot be in the case of early models such as yours. It doesn't make a massive difference to throttle, but you tend to notice it more pulling away as its difficult to use less than 1500rpm with sport mode on meaning starts are quicker, but you can achieve this with a normal throttle anyway! The only reason for justifying the retrofitting would be for the steering. I actually activate the function on motorways so the steering doesn't feel so light rather than using it on the twisties. It is my opinion that sport mode on, the steering feedback isn't as good as the 1st generation car anyway. I guess it is technically possible to have a button installed that changes the software mapping on the power steering, but personally I would spend my money on a real upgrade (brakes, suspension etc) than just a semi-gimmick which is good to show friends. ![]() |

Offline | Thanks for your reply. WeŽll see what happens when it comes to this - if I decide to go for it I will write in this thread again. I have asked MINI Sweden for the price of this upgrade, if possible. IŽll get back when I have that price aswell. As you say, it might be more bang for the buck to do something else with the car instead. |
