Engine running rough when cold - a problem??

Recently I've noticed that when its cold outside, and I start the engine until it's fully warmed up it sounds quite rough. I've had a listen and it sound really clattery the noise is coming from the top of the engine so it could be the tappets. When driving the car it almost sounds like a deisel. When the car is warmed up the sound dissapears and seems to run fine.

Also when pressing the starter button the engine catched straight away, but it sounds like the starter motor overuns for a second making a rather nasty screach.

Does anyone have any ideas of experience of a similar problem?

Get it to your dealer ASAP, there are updated components available that will hopefully fix it.

Do you know if those updated components are used in the factory by now?

I'll take the delivery of mine next month and will be great to have these parts updated.

No idea, but you'd like to think so! All I can say is there's none available in the UK at the moment and they are on back order from Germany.

Parking on a slope and very short journeys can also seem to trigger the same noise, I'd still get it back to the dealer and try the new parts.

Serveral MINI-friends here in Sweden is sharing this problem (including me), but one of the guys were told by a mechanic at a MINIrep that there is something to do with the valves and if the car hasnīt been "using the revs so much".
This was the explanation he got, still it disappears after a few minutes of running, MINI has not come out with an alert, so if this should be a major problem (such as safety or severe risk of damage to the engine) I am sure MINI would call in all cars to get it fixed soonest.
The sound is a bit annoying when starting the car, but it soons disappear - just remember to use the revs, guys and gals

No I made the whole thing up!

Yes really, the parts are on back order from Germany, due 28th March and my car is currently sitting at the dealer waiting for them. There's been 1 car that has had them fitted discussed in the cold start issue thread in the fixes section and that so far has not had the problem repeat, and at least one other person also waiting for the parts on back order.
