Offline | S Vs the others Just tried a cooper today and a cooper D, yes the cooper D has a bit of talk and 50-70 its pretty quick but I will be long gone in the S by time the dooper gets to 50!!! Can't believe any of these guys can comare their performance to the S and claim they are better.... Yes mpg is better but I did not buy the S for economy it was for smiles per mile. Both cars were sluggish and unremarkable, diesel was a little noisey and the cooper was a little limp. Gearboxes did not seam as good, and the set-up was not as tight. All in all I expected more from what I had heard from the forums, absolute cobblers!! |

Offline | I don't think anyone would claim that the Dooper is a match for the S ???The Dooper setup is based on a tradeoff between getting excellent MPG with reasonable acceleration. People buy them because they are cheaper to run in all areas than the S. I wanted an S, but decided I couldnt afford to run it at the moment. But I'm really happy with the Dooper as the S would probably only get me to where I wanted to go a few seconds sooner for most journeys, due to traffic on backroads and the speedlimits on major roads ![]() I'm surprised I've replied as it's really obvious that the S is the performance model ![]() |

Offline | Let's simpify the comparisons...... MINI One - For anyone that wants a no-frills car, cheap to run, cheap to tax, and not bothered about speed. Very good for new drivers. MINI Cooper - The all-rounder. Fun, nippy, and balances everything. Very good for a second car and is far more advanced than the One. MINI Cooper D - Benefits people who do alot of milage. Has also got credidentials to be very quick because of the torque. MINI Cooper S - I think this spells fun all over. For the driver who doesn't have financial limits and wants a car that makes the MINI what it should be all about. As much as I personally love the Cooper D (my dad owns it), the Cooper S brings driving to a new level. |

| Waiting for Doopy!! | That's strange, tried both today myself. I have an A3 2.0 tdi- 140bhp. The Dooper felt nearly as quick- but it remains a diesel- I can't stand that clatter anymore! The Cooper was just as fast but 40-60 mph felt slow, I really had to rev it hard to make as good progress as I did with the Dooper. I haveonly tried the "old" S. That was quick and did sound gorgeous the new one must be even better. I do think I'll go for the new S. Its more economical than the old one, cheap to tax for the power, and easy to live with in general!! |
