United-States Question about negotioating price with dealer...

I hope this is in the right place. Anyway, is it possible to negotiate the price on your mini if you're special ordering it and not buying off the lot? I'm planning on buying one very soon, but wanted to ask you guys about this. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

I would say probably not. There never have been discounts offered on MINIs, and the west coast still gets a premium above MSRP. Most you can hope for, I think, is free floor mats and maybe a little bit of free swag. My local dealer offered a free Ipod Nano last December, that is about the best deal I've seen.

Hi, I have the same question as you... I went to 2 Mini dealerships in my area, and they only offer "discouts" (same MSRP price, but with some extra add-on without charging you) on cars on the lot. He said, that there are no discounts on customized orders since you are already getting what you want. Somehow I find Mini dealerships too cocky.... =(

Life is about choices. You can buy a MINI for MSRP or buy a Dodge truck and get a $6000 rebate. I chose a MINI, and when I sold it three years later I got 90% of what I paid. That Dodge truck however...

Yup thats one good thing with the minis, they donīt loose much value.

But anyway some discounts is possible, on the current Mini i got an 7% discount, and on the R56 i so far got 4%..

there are no dealers... only motoring advisors.

heh, in general, theres not much price haggling for minis, best i can tell. when you walk into a dealer... you know you want a mini. they know you want a mini. nobody who actually drives to a mini dealership goes there to "just look".

while you might not be able to negotiate the price of the mini itself, you can certainly play a bit with a bunch of other things, including interest rate, leasing options, value of your trade in, dealer options, accessories, etc. most dealerships should be throwing in mats, at a minimum, imo...

as for lot pricing vs. custom order pricing; if anything, you *might* be able to wrangle a discount for an off the lot car, because the dealer is pressured to move them out... especially in the coming months, as 07's start to show up. even then, though... if yoru not willing to pay full price for the priveledge of driving your car off the lot instead of waiting 7 weeks, its a good bet the next guy will. on the other end, if your custom ordering, you may have to wait, but at least your getting exactly what you want- i'm not seeing much leverage that you could use to lower the price.

Yes I asked about free TLC as a token gesture and the dealer laughed and said "nice try!"

Here on the US west coast, we pay retail and then some. My dealer in Portland is asking list price plus $175, about 91.5 pounds. It's all supply and demand.
