| MINI2 Senior | Reverse is in a different place, obviously. Tbh its not much different everyday in town, you will only use 6th at motorway cruising speed, or at least over 50mph Dunno if its to do with the higher torque in the S or the shorter ratios but I tend to have it in third most of the time in situations when on a 5 speed would warrent 2nd (if you get me). Offline | Don't know about the mini, but I have a six speeder on my X5. Big advantage is greater flexibility on the twisty stuff and also better economy on the motorway over the five speed. StumpyPete R56 on order (for the wife) ![]() |

Offline | I have a six speed in my Boxster S and tbh I am not sure it has much advantage over a five speed. Indeed I sometimes forget what gear I'm in. Maybe in a less powerful car it enables one to use the engine more effectively. I shall be interested to see when my R56 MCS arrives on 18 November. |

Offline | I have one in my Golf (a 1.6 with 15bhp). It makes for relaxed cruising but consequently if you are below 60mph or so in 6th, acceleration is poor as you are too low down the rev band. I'm sure it will be good for fuel economy/noise level on the motorway. The outgoing MINI did rev too high on cruising IMO. |
