Why no Sport button on UK Coopers?

The Sport Button sounds like fun.

So why is it standard in the US on the Cooper but not available in the UK!

Really annoying - almost makes me want to upgrade to an MCS (except an MCS in the same spec as my Cooper will cost about Ģ24k! )

I think it is becasue the 'sports button' is useless in the UK when you are stuck in traffic for 90% of the time. LOL!

Yeah. And how long can it be before the government introduces a sport button tax?

Is it not even available in the UK as an option?

The Sport Button will become an option on Cooper in the UK from March 2007 build onwards.

I thought that when you hit the button, a football bounces out from underneath the car. Since your football and our football are different, I thought it was a UK plot to increase interest in your football.

My wife, Donny, who is from Hong Kong, asks me why our football is called that when the players hardly spend any time kicking it. I told her I have no good answer.

Any idea what that option will cost?

Also, will it make much differenence on the lower powered Cooper?

Sorry, wasn't told that, but I doubt it will be overly expensive.

It is being launched in conjunction with the Automatic Transmission, as the gearbox itself does not have a 'Sport' mode, but will also be available on manual.

It doesn't make a huge difference on the Cooper S, but just enough to make the drive more involved. I would imagine the same difference will be noticeable on the Cooper.

Not that it matters, virtually everyone will have it anyway!

Is it worth waiting for Scrogg? I am looking for a March delivery on mine (when i order it) and I presume it would increase the fuel useage.

Also save a new thread, any more news on insurance groups as I presume the first people expecting delivery are wanting to insure their new MINI's.

After driving the Cooper S yesterday, both with and without the Sport Button on, I think it is worth it.

If you are worried about the reduction in fuel economy that it will probably cause you can always leave it off most of the time, and just use it when you want to have a bit of fun!

Still waiting to here back from MINI on insurance groups, but as both safety and security are improved over the outgoping model I would be very surprised if they are not lower...

As with everything in the world of cars, it is there to give people the choice.

You may switch your Traction Control off, but that does not make it a gimmick that should not be there, does it?

Personally, I would leave it on all the time, but it is nice to know I have the choice rather than just being told I have to have it.

Scrogg fair point.

BTW: Traction Control isn't a Gimmick - but a life safer for some drivers!

I agree, I was just using it as an example of a technical aid that not everyone uses/likes, perhaps it wasn't the best one to use though!

In Sweden the sportbutton cost 1300SEK, that will be Ģ90, so its not a superexpensive option so to speak.
Sounds odd that you cant get it. I canīt come up with a good reason.
