Offline | Help speccin a Cooper. OK, "if" I were to drive an R56, liked it and wanted to order a Cooper what do people think is the way to go regarding options? I'm looking at getting a decent return when I trade it so do not want any fancy stuff like SatNav which is not of much use to me or any worthless options. Wheels no bigger than 16" either! Colour I am set on is red/black Is chilli a neccessity or should I just go for a bog standard car with a few option or perhaps Pepper pack? So, please give me your thoughts on what you consider would give the best value, yet nice to own MINI. |

Offline | I would go for CHILI - it's got some of the "basic" luxuries. And if you're going for red or black then you ain't going too far wrong ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |

| YLYP Reclamation Squad | All five Colour Lines are £90 as a 'stand-alone' option, but Dark Grey and Cream White are included (not FOC) with certain leather upholstery choices. As Mellow Yellow, Pacific Blue and Rooster Red are not automatically included with any upholstery they will always appear as a cost option. If you have specified the CHILI Pack then, yes, Dark Grey is included and will be shown as a 'FOC'. All five Colour Lines are the same, in that they are 'soft touch' plastic, as opposed to the 'hard' plastic of the dash top and door cards. If no Colour Line is specified then the knee roll area of the dash and armrest section of the door is hard plastic like everything else. |

| YLYP Reclamation Squad | Looking at this from a purely rational and financial point-of-view, ignoring completely the emotional side of buying and owning a MINI, I would recommend the following: Chili Red/Black (although Chili Red/White is more popular) CHILI Pack (un-enhanced) MFSW Visibility Pack The CHILI Pack is a better choice than the cheaper PEPPER Pack because the MINI is optimised to run on 16" wheels, more people want it, and you will get the difference back come resale time. Simple. Any other options will have absolutely no positive effect on the resale value whatsoever. I'll leave this now for others to argue about options they like being good value, but from the point-of-view of financial sense, you simply will not beat this spec. (Sits back and waits for the abuse to start!) |

Offline | That's the kind of info I'm after Do you think a Chilli MINI would be worth, say, £600 more than a Pepper MINI after three years? Therefore retaining a decent portion of the additional outlay when new? |

| YLYP Reclamation Squad | Nobody can predict the future, but going by Glass's Guide values for current model, same-age Coopers, the difference in value between PEPPER and CHILI has always been, pretty much, the same as the difference in cost new. Basically, if you spend it now, you get it back at resale, and have a nicer spec car that will be more desirable in a few years time! ![]() |

Offline | OK Scrogg, thanks for that. Guess Chilli is the way to go. Having a play on MINI.co.uk I specced: Cooper red/black bonnet stripes chilli (either black or red/back seats) Fluid silver dash/door trim (like piano black but may be too dark inside?) ASC+T Possibly the other 16" wheels over the standard Chilli ones. |

| YLYP Reclamation Squad | I agree with you on the Piano Black being too dark, much as I love it, so Fluid Silver is a much 'safer' choice. As for the wheels, go with what you prefer, but Blasters will be more popular on a used car, as they look more sporty. Just to show I never listen to my own advice though, this is what my next one will look like: Model MINI Cooper Colour Chili Red with White Roof and Chrome Door Mirror Caps Interior Carbon Black/Rooster Red Ray Cloth/Leather Rooster Red Colour Line Fluid Silver Interior Trim Options PEPPER Pack* 3-Spoke Sports Leather Steering Wheel 6 Disc CD Changer ASC+T Bi-Xenon Headlights Front Sports Seats Heated Door Mirrors & Washerjets Hi-Fi Speaker System Multi-Function Steering Wheel Sport Button Sports Suspension Visibility Pack White Indicator Lenses White MINI Bonnet Stripes Accessories 18" R95 John Cooper Works Alloy Wheels Aerodynamic Kit Aerodynamic Rear Spoiler Chequered Flag Roof Decal Chequered Flag A-Pillar Decals (many thanks to The Lady Peanut and CooperBeast for inspiration!) Front Spotlamps MINI Cooper S Fuel Filler Cap All coming in at almost bang on £21,000.00! *I've put the PEPPER Pack instead of CHILI Pack as it works out over £300 cheaper to add the 3-Spoke Sports Leather Steering Wheel and Sports Front Seats as stand-alone options, and means the standard rear spoiler would not have to be removed to make way for the Aerodynamic Rear Spoiler. It would also then come with the MINI Mobility System that I would need as I would not have run-flats on the 18" JCW alloys. |

Offline | Looks very nice. I would probably have gone for metallic black but my current car is that colour and red is free DSC is a great choice. I have a similar system on my Golf. Very poor that such an important safety feature is an option. I would rather they include it and increase the base price by say £200! The mkV Golf has this included in the price on even the base 1.4 car with 75bhp! |
