The R56 has no coolant temp gauge!

I was sitting in my new mini, and I suddenly thought something was missing. The coolant temp gauge is non existent! That is always something I have kept a close watch on to avoid any overheating damage. Now I have to rely on the car to tell me by alerting me with a warning signal. Not sure if that is a good idea or a bad idea. Anyone else any thoughts?

I noticed that too and meant to ask the dealer but got completely wrapped up in my test drive!

I think that's pretty much the norm. I think you very rarely see much fluctuation now, unless it gets extreme, in which case it will warn you anyway.

You need to go by more than water temp if that's why your using it! I'd say oil temp is more important than water if you're using as an "abuse limiter".

I don't deny that but oil temp guages are far from standard in most cars and I'd rather at least know the water thermostat had opened and allowed water to be circulating around the engine block.

Maybe one in the Chrono Pack when it's available?

Psst, from what I've been told they are developing one and it's going to be "very different" from the current one. No idea on the ETA though.

Would make sense for them to have a chrono pack, fill up the speedo for those that cannot afford/justify the cost of SatNav and give them another opportunity to get some money out of you.

I hope it is re-released, as I love it, but MINI seemed pretty adamant a few weeks ago that the Speedo was only moved to the steering column as, at the time, it was the only way they could get the Sat Nav in, and that they have never been happy with having two pods behind the steering wheel.

Now that the Sat Nav and Speedo are combined is there really any need for the second pod? Perhaps an 'additional gauges' option is coming, like the dealer-fit on that is/was available for the old model?

From what I understand it will be quite different to the current chrono pack (a very good thing in my book, but horses for courses).

I'd picture it sitting within the central speedo, but with the speedo needle travelling round the outside edge as it does on the Sat Nav speedo.

Loads of opportunity for MINI to get this looking great and give people another option to drop those stereo controls down from the speedo

Its only a forum you know!

I did start to worry today. Sitting in traffic and the fan cuts in. No gauge so how warm was it getting? I very rarely heard the fan cut in on my old mini, the needle in the gauge hardly ever moved from the middle. I had a peugeot 206 before I had a mini, and that would get hot in traffic.

There is supposed to be a warning light that comes on.I just hope it works! I have had the boot open warming light come on, even though I was sure it was closed. It seems to be a bit over sensitive, so you have to firmly close the boot or it will come on.

There just can't be enough options that do that.

Anything that stops that ridiculous on/off switch from being stranded alone amongst acres of plastic has got to be a good thing!

Funny, that was my experience as well. As soon as I drove off after the handover, the light told me the boot was open. I got out and reclosed it but still the light came on. Went back to see the salesman who slammed quite hard. Problem solved .
