Ireland EMERGENCY- ordering today!!!!

Hoping someone can give me a bit of guideance.
Trading in my 2004 Cooper - which in fairness gave me loads of problems with the run flat indicator and some rattling etc.

So after much thought because I only do around 6,000 miles a year decided on Cooper as opposed to S or waiting for D. Love the Idea of the S but can't really justify it and I'm told D won't be as nippy as Cooper.

So hoping someone can help me on the Spec
1. Sunroof - wanted a sunroof but after reading this forum have no idea what to expect. Seems there are loads of glitches and they rattle and shake. I'm demented with rattling in car I have now so don't think the mental health could stand rattling.
2. Pepper or Chili - for the sake of 16 inch alloys and sports seats not sure this is justified but am I wrong?

3. Multi function steering wheel - worthwhile?
4. Auto air con - worthwhile?

Any help appreciated. Thanks
p.s. none of the Irish dealers are really muhc good on knocking anything off list prices. Boo hoo

I have the 2007 Mini Cooper too

1. Sunroof...... Yes.....I love my one....will be fab in the summer

2. Pepper or Chili....chilli seats are very comfy....rear spoiler too looks good....think it also gets the extra chrome on the bumpers...if you get for eg like me lightning blue the colour combo & colour line to match look well

3. Multi function steering wheel - worthwhile?..... so worth while......cruise control....fab on duel carriageways.....and safer to use the radio while driving.....look best on the 3 spoke steering wheel IMHO...

4. Auto air con - worthwhile?....I thought the new dial layout for the aircon " as standard on chilli pack" looks better than most manual aircon on other cars so didn't see the need to spend the extra money here....spend it elsewhere....

make sure you get the decor rings in "fine white silver" finish...think that's the option...looks well with the dash combo....

that was my regret....not spotting that was an option.....

and you wont get any discounts.... I got free tlc....thats about it......

Hiya - welcome to Mini2

I 2nd everything that Vinnie says , I got the sunroof on my new S and there have been no rattles so far (hope I have'nt jinxed it now!!!). The mfsw is a must as the stereo controls on the new mini are very fiddley and fairly crap to try and work when driving!!
As for the chilli pack, well its very much down to personal choice - i picked it but some other peeps go for the pepper pack and spend the extra €€€ on other options.
You def need to haggle with the Irish dealers- its worth ringing around, the €€€ are better in your pocket than theirs!!! Let them know you are trying lots of dealers .....

Anyway, best of luck with the purchase!!

I didn't know about that either when I ordered my car? Do you have any photos? Is that on the online build you car?

You were lucky getting tlc, I didn't get that, but I did get him down from 12% APR to 9.3% APR. And got him to give me another £250 for my car. Said I'd get some presents on the day too - wonder what they'll be?

1. Sunroof. Had one in one car - would never have another. A total waste of time in my opinion. Does nothing for cooling the car, just open a window. Expensive and possibly problematic.

2. CHIILLI is OK value "if" you want sports seats and 16" alloys. If you don't, go for PEPPER.

3. MFSW - yes, good value.

4. Not for me, manual works fine. If anything people probably fiddle just as much with auto as manual.

On the diesel, it may be more sluggish off the line but it will be a lot faster on in gear acceleration. Big premium if you don't do a lot of miles though.

I don´t have sunroof in my R50 MCS but when I did go for a testdrive in a R56 MC with sunroof I decided that it was a must have..ok not a must but a really nice option. Specially when i speced anthracite headliner, pianodash and black cloth sportseats.
so i say go for sunroof.

and the MFSW is absolutely great, can´t imagine my car without now when I´m used to it.

Chili pak...naaa, did´t go for that myself. i opted pepperpak instead and did get auto aircon, sportseats and bi-xenon's for almost the same amount as chili.

and yes auto aircon..absolutely. For me it was one obvious choice. Its the best specially now in the winter..

bottling it

Shame on me.
I'm after bottling it and now the dealer keeps ringing me.

I'm really sorry with everyone after being kind enough to respond to my emergency request.
The boyfriend is after convincing me that I am mad to change my own car - hardly any milage - for a car that's going to depreciate by 30% in first year.

So now I am totally mithered. All I can think of is sunroofs and MFSW and it doesn't look that I'll be getting any soon.
Problem is that now my 2004 Cooper just can't measure up.

What to do

sorry but I think thats your own choice, and by own experience I know that when I get someting in my head, like sunroofs and MFSW`s etc the only way is to go for it. Only live once.. but again that s my opinion.

If your lucky you might narrow the price down a bit, I got a £1200 discount without even pushing my dealer..
good luck!

Everything seems to have been covered pretty well. The only thing I would add is:

Don't know what your height is but for me, on driving last year's model (My dealer inventories only cars with sunroofs), my heighth wouldn't allow me to sit up straight. Had to angle the seat back a bit to sit comfortably. For that reason and knowing that the sunroof eats up verticle space I've ordered my R56 without one.

Hi Sarah,

I picked up my new R56 Cooper on Jan 2nd from Bolands in Waterford and went for the Pepper Pack, MFSW, Traction control & exterior mirror pack. Got the tlc thrown in for free. The Chilli pack didn't appeal to me value wise and for some some strange reason I never liked sunroofs!!!!

I was like you (in two minds), wanted a Mini the last time when I changed in 04 and didn't go for it and then spent the next few years unsettled about what I bought so eventually bit the bullet and went for it. Once its in your head you'll have to change eventually!!!

Go for it - you only live once

Mr One D

See you went for the Cooper D.

Can't get my head around the stats.

Is it going to be zippier than the Cooper -
Will it be as powerful as the Cooper S????

Torque figure will be equal to the S ......so it will Pull like a train

Cooper
1.6 litre, 4 cylinder, 16V engine
120 hp
126 mph top speed
0-62 mph in 9.1s
Urban (mpg) 36.2
Extra-Urban (mpg) 61.4
Combined (mpg) 48.7

Cooper D
1.6 litre, 4 cylinder, 16V engine
110 hp
121 mph top speed
0-62 mph in 9.9s
Urban (mpg) 50.4
Extra-Urban (mpg) 76.3
Combined (mpg) 64.2

.......and up here in the North, road tax for the diesel will be £50 for the year!

whaddya mean?

Won't the 120 hp v. 110 hp make a diffence?

I'm looking for a fun car. Lot of city driving.
I'm a bit thick, granted, but how can diesel feel like MCS with different hp? Thought torque (?) kicked in at higher revs?

The Cooper may have slightly quicker accel, but thats like on a level road. you put these two cars on a mountain road in Ireland with me in the Diesel, and I don't care who else in the Cooper, and I'll bet the Cooper will be left in the Diesels wake.

I drove the Cooper for 10 days when we were in the States recently, and just became so fustrated a the lack of torque or pull when climbing or overtaking

....but I think your dilema is weither to go for a new Cooper or stick with what you have? ...not weither or not to buy a diesel !
