Offline | Suzuki is a budget car brand but I guess the Swift is one of the closest looking cars to the Mini. Shame its performance didnt match. |

| Useless... | I was going to start a thread but the Aston was too nice to miss ![]() Very low spec Cooper, but it did the bizo. Very pleased to see it win. We looked at all sorts before getting our Cooper, anything from Focus ST and Megane CC and everything in between, but the R56 pipped them all of desirability, looks, options, and because its a Mini. |

Offline | I tend to think of Fifth Gear as 'motoring methodone'. Yes, it's a TV show about cars, but it's not the same as Top Gear (despite trying to be)! Bring on the next series... ![]() |

Offline | If the Swift Sport was say a Grand cheaper it would be a fantastic buy, it's just that tad overpriced. I owned a 1.5 GLX alongside my Cooper S and loved the Swift. I think many of those who disregard the Swift as a Wannabee MINI should look at Suzuki's racing pedigree and heritage. Suzuki aren't stupid and have a produced a fine car in the Swift. Never found a problem with the clutch thats been mentioned, gear change was nice and slick and handling was fun and fluid and preferred the ride to the MINI. More practical also than the MINI with a more useful boot. Yes it's not as sturdy feeling as the MINI but depends how you look at it, I Iiked the lighweight feel when nipping around town where the MINI felt like a lead foot in comparison at times. On a longer trip I would choose the MINI for overall refinement but as has been mentioned about the Swift before on here it's not a MINI in drag, it's a good little car in it's own right. Forgot to say have also found the Swift better screwed together than the current crop of MINI's and no nasty plastic centre console ![]() Corsa VXR, Flame Red, 18" Alloys, S&L Pack |

![]() Addicted to MINI... | YouTube - Fifth Gear - Suzuki Swift Sport vs Mini Cooper There we go guys! Theres the video. Interesting Tiff says the swift is lighter but in EVO its heavier! 20 bhp more and the swift wouldnt stand a chance! Sadly the lap times cant be compared between the old and new cooper as its a different test track but it can be compared to the Corsa VXR...which amazingly is only 2 seconds quicker! The Clio 197 is 1.5 seconds quicker than the VXR |

Offline | I had a guy at work last week tell me that he reckons that his Swift would easily beat a MCS around a track (when mine arrives and has a worn in motor we will see). To see that the swift sport is competing with a standard cooper is interesting... I might have to see the comparison between the Cooper S and the Swift sport in real life (in controlled conditions on a track of course :P) |

Offline | I test drove a Swift Sport at the weekend shortly followed by the new Cooper. I think the swift is great value for money and it did go well. The engine felt a lot more alive than the Cooper but maybe that's just because you could hear it more. It seemed very responsive and handled pretty well (but I can't see it taking on an S - no way!). The interior lets it down a bit - the seats are yuck - much to high. |

Offline | It's a little ludicrous comparing the Swift Sport with the Cooper S, 123bhp V's 175 plus the Swift belongs in a cheaper price bracket, having said that I'm a big fan of them, theyre brill little cars and I would have a Swift Sport over a MINI ONE anytime being in a similar price bracket. The Swift inside does look a little on the budget side when you look closely at the plastics, however it's very well screwed together and although cheapish plastics are used, importantly it looks smart. Pound for Pound the MINI ONES interior isn't exactly upmarket in terms of quality anyways. For me the only thing in the MINI's favour is it's residuals. Corsa VXR, Flame Red, 18" Alloys, S&L Pack |

Offline | JG, you're so right about the residuals. I was doing my maths last night - whether to keep my 54 Cooper, get a new one or maybe get a Swift. My other half reckoned the Swift would be a great compromise and I could save some money. We were both a bit surprised when we worked it out and the Mini actually comes our cheaper overall. Admittedly, we made an assumption about residuals - I assumed I would get about £8.5 - 9k for my new Cooper in 3 years time and we put 6k for the Swift (which might even be a bit optomistic but it's hard to know as it's so new). So, looks like I'm speccing a new Cooper :-) |

![]() Addicted to MINI... | Sprite I agree, Id easily have chosen a swift sport over a ONE, even against a cooper it wasa tough call but there were a few things that swayed me to the cooper... As you say...residuals are appauling for the swift (30-something% compared to the Minis 60%) Limited options list Only 5 gears...pooor economy when at motorway speeds |
