Offline | I found it a bit disconcerting at first when i tried one yesterday, but once you get used to it its good in wierd way. Wonder what effect it'll have on starter motors after a few years? ![]() JCW Sound Kit on order........ |

Online | Certain factors have to be right for the system to work - car must be up to operating temperature (i.e. won't usually work in the first 15 mins of a journey), and it won't work if there's a high current load at the time (i.e. if you're running xenons, and the stereo, and the heated screen, aircon, heated seats etc).... Basically, the car will switch itself off when its up to temperature, and able to sustain all the systems you currently have running from the battery, and still have enough power in reserve to re-start when you depress the clutch ![]() ![]() |

Online | Yup Turning a starter motor and firing up an engine actually requires a huge amount of power - this is more than made up in the new MINI by the energy regeneration system which charges the battery through the brakes (a bit like a dynamo on a bike). BMW call the system 'efficient dynamics' - it basically utilises the power harnessed through the brakes to re-fuel the system quickly, to enable it to switch off the engine while the vehicle is stationary. Very clever really, harnessing power that's already there, to switch off power when its not needed. ![]() ![]() |

Offline | Just picked me new S up and thought it was bust, every time I stopped at the lights it stalled, got home and rang the dealer up and complained. It was only then, when he explained did I realise what stop/start was. I'll give it a try, but when in traffic and it stops it is a little un-nerving. If we get snow or cold weather I will be very worried if the little *** doesn't start! |

Offline | So that's what 'Efficient Dynamic's is. ![]() Is it on all R56's or after a certain build date? ![]() The Orange Blob As My Avatar Is The Mascot Of JetAlliance Racing Called 'Carli'. |
