Offline | New and concerned Hi, Just ordered a new Cooper, registered with the forum and had a quick look around, Yee Gods, first impression is that these 2nd generations are problematic. Have I got the right impression or am I just being twitchy. Geoff. |

| What's Next? | Hi Geoff, Whilst not trying to dismiss the fact that there have been issues, this question has been asked many times and the same answer always comes up. For every car that has had problems there are dozens that have not. But sadly, human nature being what it is, the people that have something to complain about are much more likely to say something than those that don't. All cars have problems, and (virtually ) all problems can be fixed, so just enjoy the car and don't worry! ![]() |

Offline | Don't worry about the problems, just be happy in the knowledge the warranty is excellent and of course you get MINI assist too ![]() I had an 04 Cooper with not one day of trouble. Now have an 07 R56 Cooper and have had a couple of niggles but nothing too serious and MINI warranty has covered the lot!! Enjoy your car and enjoy the forum, a fab place for information and meeting like minded MINI owners ![]() |

| VW GT Sport 170 TDI | Knowledge is power. This forum offers a lot of knowledge which you can use to your advantage if you have problems. But you know when you search on the internet for 'headache', you almost always find 'tumour', or if you watch "air crash investigation" on Discovery you'd believe all planes are going to fall out of the sky ...... well this forum is the same it encourages you to think the worst ......Anyway, most R56 problems have been with the Cooper S, not the Cooper, and even the 'old' R53 MINI had its fair share of problems, but both models far fewer than most other manufacturers, and generally good dealer support. If you expect to go to the dealer with 1 or 2 minor faults a year, you'd be right on the average for MINI. The R56 Cooper is a lovely car - I had one for a time and loved it before changing for a JCW GP. It had a couple of minor niggles (search if you like as I reported them at the time) which the dealer sorted out easily enough. So, you certainly haven't made a mistake. I would ask why you didn't go for the Cooper D, but that's about all I would question - enjoy your new car and don't forget to post some photographs ! |

Offline | Every car has it problems, if there are any just take it to MINI, but if you see a few problem threads together it is probably because they get more replies than the 'Working Fine' threads. Tom. ![]() The Orange Blob As My Avatar Is The Mascot Of JetAlliance Racing Called 'Carli'. |

Offline | Hi there Had my Cooper auto since March, not far off 7000 miles now, and it's still magic. I'd echo the other comments in this thread - no worries, don't panic, just enjoy it when you get it! In my experience, it's a great little car and TBH I'm enjoying driving it probably more than any other car I've ever had (including Audi, biggish Beemer, Volvo, etc). Not sure about every trip being an adventure, but every trip is certainly a moment of pleasure to look forward to - although ladies can be fun too! ![]() Overall, best value smiles-per-gallon I've ever got from a car. Do I like it? Just a bit! Problems? One slippy floor mat, and one small rattle that's now cured itself. Pretty insignificant. Cheers S |

Offline | I would never have even ordered my first MINI in 2004 if I'd read this forum first !!! Every car forum will read as a large list of problems simply because it's what tends to get discussed the most.Though I can only speak for the original new MINI (2004 and 2006), 3 1/2 years 50,000 miles and two MINI's later I've been very happy with the build quality of both of them. Offline | Previous MINI - March 2005 Cooper. In 6 months (11000 miles) from new it went back to the dealer 4 times. First with an immobiliser fault (got stuck on and wouldn't let me drive it for about an hour - not good with a boot full of shopping from the supermarket). Three further times with an oil leak! Current MINI - March 2007 Cooper. Has been back to the dealership twice for recalls. The only problem I've had with it is because the dealer didn't do what they were supposed to on the second recall. Otherwise, over 13000 miles of problem free motoring. It's a great car. I think the new one is more reliable overall. you'll love it! ![]() ![]() |
