| Kernow Mini Man | Comparing 1st Gen One with 2nd Gen One I have just had my car booked in to my local dealership to get it fixed as i had an engine coolant leak. They lent me a new Mini One courtesy car for 2 days and was very excited when they passed over the keys! Thinking that it wasn't going to be much different to my Mini One (1st Gen), bloody hell i was wrong!! As soon as i got in it, it felt much classier and BMW like.I took off, and really think the gearbox is amazing!!! lovely to drive!! 6 speed gearbox doing around 50mpg!! much more impressive than mine doing around 33mpg. I was also impressed with the steering. Makes life a hell of a lot easier when maneouvering (or however you spell it). When i returned to my car today, it felt i was steering a 20 year old brick!! As glad as i was to see my Mini back, I already miss the 2nd gen One!! Amazing car!! Has anyone else drove both gens yet and what do you think?? |

Offline | The R56 is a nice drive, but more BMW than MINI if you know what I mean. I still prefer the more connected nature of the previous car. '02 Cooper CVT PW/B '05 MCS CR/W |

Offline | Hi Scottp7, Glad you liked the new Mini One. I've just ordered one - (first Mini). Did you notice any significant difference in performance between the 1st Gen 1.6 engine and the 2nd Gen 1.4 ? Cheers, Ian. |

Offline | To be fair KenL, CooperS4us was giving a straight answer to a direct question on the final line of scottP7's original post. Seems fair to me. Scottp7, as you are an enthusiast and you apparently live in Cornwall (good for you!), why not check out our local club site at: new MINI Kernow and click on "Forums" We have a lot of events over the coming couple of months, there may be something you fancy joining us on. Offline | No, I never driven a MINI ONE because they are not sold here in North America, but have owned a 2002 R50 Cooper CVT for the past 5 years. '02 Cooper CVT PW/B '05 MCS CR/W |

Offline | I have recently picked up my R56 One. Previously I had a R50 Cooper, but my brother had a R50 one that I was allowed to drive on occasion ![]() I have to say I like all Mini's and i would really hate to think of my car as anything like a BMW, it's just smart!! (sorry but BMW drivers really get on my nerves!) I wouldn't say it is smarted than the old one, just different. It deffinately goes faster than the old one though. When driving my brothers One after my Cooper I always used to feel it was lagging a bit. This new One goes as fast as my old Cooper. At a week and a half old i'm only getting 40 miles to the gallon at the moment but i'm sure that will improve. I loved my old Cooper and it was very hard for me to give up but my new One is saving me so much money (£10 cheaper to fill up! and half the car insurance price!). I don't have a preference. If you can afford a new One i'd go for a new One but i wouldn't necessarily change an old One for a New One unless you're looking to anyway! Same goes for all the r50/56 models (I've now driven all except the new Cooper and old Cooper S, but my fiance has a r50 Cooper S and my brother a new Cooper S) I think they all have their + and - points just depends what you're looking for! |

| Dodgey, er, dodgem driver | We had an R50 Cooper - Now an R56, and the difference is tremendous!!! The R56 is much better fitted together (slate me all you want if you wish) looks great, and has better in gear acceleration, as well as economy. Must admit not driven the R56 One, but got to drive an R50 One. Was impressed because there is very little difference between the One and Cooper. |

Offline | well i don't mean to upset anyone with that statement, all i'm saying is that between driving the R50 One and the R50 Cooper, i could feel the difference when joining a duel carriage way. And when i picked my new One up i could not feel any difference when pulling away on a duel carriageway compared to my old Cooper. But that is my personal opinion. And probably the way i drive ![]() We've been having the whole R50/R53/R56 debate on our site too and i personally think what we all have to remember is that we are all driving Minis. We all love our Minis and it's bought a wonderful community together. We all have different opinions and likes and dislikes and that's what makes the world interesting, it doesn't necessarily mean one is better than another. We need to be careful otherwise we'll start to sound like those 'classic mini' owners who hate new Minis. We need to stick together!! |

Offline | Having done 5,000 miles in my R53 MCS (which I love to bits) and having recently driven a Cooper D around Exeter (so not over 30mph), I'd say it has every bit as much pull as the S around town and it's more readily available as well. Good turbo diesels should be that way. I still wouldn't want one myself (personal choice) but it's a good diesel. | Kernow Mini Man | I have got a bluefin installed on my 2005 Mini One and must say that the 2007 One did seem a bit flat when accelerating up hills etc. But for the extra fuel consumption you get and the fun of the new handling!! its mighty impressive and fun! Its also great when crusing on dual carriageways, much quieter as you have the 6th gear. I would say though that there isnt much power difference at all between the 05 One and the 07 One. I test drived the 07 Cooper S a couple of months ago and that was BLOOMIN !! I cant describe it in words, it was great! A shame I cant afford the insurance Im checking the kernow mini club out by the way Cheers Everyone!! |

I'm keen to help you get on to our site so, if there is still a problem, please would you send me a PM with your email address? Thanks Tigger. PS: Is it coming up as a bad link for other users as well? ![]() May 08: Thanks to all of my friends on Mini2 for a lot of great times over the last 4 years.
