Scotland JCW Strut Brace Fitting

I have bought a JCW strut brace on ebay due to price, i need to check with R56 owners that have fitted this Strut brace if it came with nuts as person i bought from said it was the nots on the standard strut top no extra bolts with the brace when it came , also is standard nuts what is the torque setting for them. Will this affect the insurance as well.
I have to say as have seen on board before and i never learn it does not seem to be strong enough to make the difference IMHO let's fit and find out and will give an update as soon as get info thanks Derek

Per previously posted on another thread (http://www.mini2.com/forum/2nd-gen-w...rut-brace.html), I got my JCW strut brace fitted pre-delivery/pick-up.

However, I found this previously... http://motoringfile.com/files/R56_PD...trut_brace.PDF
It says the parts should include the brace + 6 hex nuts, and not to reuse those that come off. Also mentions torque setting (but not specifically unfortunately, just link to some other tech bulletin? - sorry).

Interested to see if you notice any difference after you fit yours?

The part number for the nut appears to be 31331092887. See here: RealOEM.COM * BMW R56 Cooper S STRUT BRACE
The drawing on that page is not correct. They reused the drawing from the R53 page (RealOEM.COM * BMW R53 Cooper S STRUT BRACE) but the part numbers are different.

No, the ref is just a parts catalog. FWIW the torque for the R50/R53 is 35 Nm (25 ft-lbs).

Correct me if I am wrong but to distinguish the R53 JCW strut brace and the newer R56 JCW strut brace is by its colour. The R53 version comes in red, while the R56 is polished stainless steel.

If you decide to get new nuts from the dealer just to be on the safe side, ask for the proper torque settings while your at it. Let us know what they say.
I thougt it was pretty stupid that the R56 installation instructions didn't give the torque, but just referenced a tech bulletin - how useless is that? The instructions for the R53 brace told you straight out what torque to use.
Oh well, I just guessed and used 40Nm - no movement after 3 autocross events so it seems to be holding fine.

the strut brace should have come with 6 nuts with a slightly smaller collar on the nuts so that it fits in the brace. If not then you have problems locating the back nut on the brace...

hope you get it sorted.

Hi, I'm new here.
Anyone had any further updates on the torque setting for the R56 JCW strut brace? I am just about to fit mine and from reading the threads will set it to 35Nm.
Anyone got any further advice on that?
Many thanks.

Sorry a friend fitted mine for me, I know the torque settings were included in the instructions but they got chucked away....... if you still not sure / dont get a confirmation in time, give your MINI dealer a quick ring.

Thanks, that's good to know! I seem to have overtightened mine a tad at 40 Nm.
