Black Cooper 205/40/17- how much can this be lowered to?

I have just got a 2007 57 plate mini one. i have bought fox R2 17" alloys with toyo 205/40/17 tyres for it.

i was wanting to lower my car but have been told that it can only be lowered to 30mm.

Is this true or can it be lowered to whatever? What size of lowering springs do you recommend?

thanks

You can lower by 30 mm just by changing the springs. any lower, say 50 mm and you will need a full coil over kit. H&R and Eibach are the widely used springs, the H&R springs lower by 30 mm and the Eibach by 25 mm i believe. KW do their various coilover variants for the R56 MINI now, lowering by 50 mm.

I have had H&R springs on my R56 Cooper S for a while now with what would be the same set up as you... 17" wheels and toyo tires, and have had no issues with rubbing on full lock. Ride will be harder but you have the none run-flats on your new wheels so that will make the ride a bit softer. As for looks take a look at the pictures in my profile, made a massive difference! got rid of the 'on stilts' look.

I ran 215/40 R17 lowered by 35mm with no scrubbing on an ET45

You can go lower than 35mm if you have a full kit but rear weight is a no-no as the risk of scrubbing is higher. I know folks who were running 40-45mm drop without issues as long as no rear seat passengers....but getting over speed humps with my 35mm and aero kit is hard now...imagine with 40+mm!
