On behalf of vintage racing:
Greetings All!
In the spirit of re-living vintage motoring, MINI of Manhattan is planning a rallye up to Lime Rock Park on Labor Day weekend to join in the fun goings-on of the Rolex Vintage Festival ... and we want any MINI owners in the area (or not) to come with us!
If you love the smell of octane-rich carburetors and the sight of vintage sheet metal, you have to do this.
Below is an excerpt describing the event on the Lime Rock Website: (
events-rolex-vintage)
"Ferrari GTOs, yes the expensive ones, will slug it out with Aston Martins MGs, Arnolt Bristols, Allards, Austin Healeys and Lotus will all provide a nostalgic but speedy class, and some of the great cars of the pre war era including Alfa Romeo, Bugatti and Miller will recreate the sights and sounds that can normally only be seen on historical film or tape.
Sunday in the Park has evolved from an essentially local car show 25 years ago into a comprehensive motoring extravaganza which fills the entire facility with interesting sights and things to do.
All of this plus the fabulous Rolex Moments in Time display, a museum quality gathering of cars and artifacts which have made significant contributions to Motorsports History, make for a wonderful day out in the scenic green valley of Lime Rock Park. "
The plan is to meet up here at mini of Manhattan on Saturday, September 1st mid-day for a light lunch and lemonade on the service drive and then motor on up to Western CT and join in the fun at LRP. Along the way we'll find some great New England twisties!
Admission and overnight accomodations are up to you, but if we can get enough people together we might be able to swing some sort of group discount at a nearby hotel. Or just join us for the day! Some of us will be staying through Monday for all of the events, and you are all welcomed to join for as long as you like.
Lime Rock Park is situated in the Berkshires, and there are awesome country roads and lots of New England charm, so there will be lots of chances to motor about and take in the sights. I personally went to school in the area and am more than happy to lead a few excursions to surrounding towns for the best in shopping and cuisine.
We have a few weeks to put together a head count and arrange some activities (suggestions welcomed!), but what we are hoping to do is get a preliminary agenda banged out as soon as possible - so if you think you can make it, let me know as soon as possible! Significant others, friends and children are more than welcome to join as well - the more the merrier!
