The One Seven, Cooper Park Lane and Cooper S Checkmate were never meant to be Limited Edition models, but some dealers told their customers they were.
The simple fact is that the Cooper Park Lane was better value than similarly specced Coopers, and the unique colour & upholstery made them very desirable, so they sold in big numbers.
For some reason, the One Seven (even after the colour option was increased from 1 to 4) wasn't seen to be different enough to a normal One, so didn't sell as well; but the Cooper S Checkmate sold just as well.
