Pretty much of a cherry vs. apple comparison, uh?

From every source to be known about executive sedans the 5-series is much on the sporty side. A Merc E-class or a Jag S-type doesnīt feel as taut and precise as the Bimmer. But I have to admit that my test drive with a 528i automatic wasnīt very convincing, too, even in comparison with my much slower 316i compact. The 5-series suspension and steering setup is much about the best compromise of control and ride comfort. It has a highly sophisticated all-aluminum layout with wishbones and control arms moving in very complex geometry. But it doesnīt intend to be a sports car or a hot hatch. The main task was to manage high cruising speeds with relaxed superiority. The fact that everything is heavier and not meant for aggressive instant response influences the way the parts are tuned. A 3-series is much more on the crispy side already.

Probably we arenīt made for cars like that, I think if I had to manage a 400 mile journey in a Merc with automatic gearbox I would very soon make a crash after falling asleep.
