Gosh, is eveyone in the entertainment biz? My wife is working on the visual effects for the Matrix sequels, so she's up in Northern California-- but she is flying down tonight to drive with the SCMM group tomorrow (which at last count had three dozen MINIs pre-registered for the drive; should be a good one with 70 people or so).
We got the flyer for the meet at the Motion Picture & TV retirement center... but I wonder how many people were even aware of it. We got it because a guy pulled up alongside of us waving a piece of paper (hey I grew up in L.A., it took me awhile to even decide to roll down the window) and then he gave us the MPTV flyer-- it's pretty hard to miss our pretty loud, pretty modified MCS (and at that time we still had all our sponsor stickers on the car from a recent photo shoot). Anyway, maybe the MPTV event was promoted on all the message boards and such- if so, it seems that SCMM should have picked up on that. But I know from past experience planning events for other car clubs that it's hard to get everything straight, things do overlap.
Regarding the BMW CCA Tech Fest, I do see it as a pretty huge conflict (actually Tech Fest was the reason my wife is flying down here; we were BMW enthusiasts first... it just so happened that there was an SCMM drive and we're going to do a little of both). Not counting the track day on Thursday at California Speedway, Tech Fest is Friday (during the day) and Saturday (during the day) and NOTHING on Sunday (bummer, as we were hoping to go to Tech Fest on Sunday). That means that unless one has Friday off from work, it's either Tech Fest OR the SCMM drive OR the MPTV meet-- in our case we are going to do part of SCMM until mid-day and then part of Tech Fest in the afternoon.
Anyway, whatever we all do this weekend...
Happy Motoring!
