First, I don't recommend you mess with any airbag components with the battery connected. You could easily set one off.

As for the radio, you can disconnect the battery and the radio will not need a code to come back on. The code message comes up only when you have a bad connection on the IBUS. As long as all your connections are good, you will have no problems.
