They bring to the party the an essential link to the original classic Mini estates, one of the many things which are different & unique to the MINI brand. If you don't want "design quirkiness" there are many other bland but practical small cars and estates available with conventional hatches & no "Club door" either.
At the end of the day if BMW have done their market research right the Clubman will sell like hot cakes, if they have it wrong it will sell like the Audi A2 or Smart ForFour !
I put my money on it being a successful modern revival of the original Mini estate concept.
