I have had the new IC and IC muffler-delete hoses fitted and put her on the rollers.

Did the mods make a difference? Yep, pretty damn good improvement across the entire rev range. I have had a minimum improvement of 15% with a peak improvement of 18%. Plenty of power and torque is available sooner.

I am now pumping out 160HP (120KW) at the wheels - plus I now know how to calculate the max torque figure accurately from the Dyno readings. Please remember if you are reading these figures down south or in a cool climate in the states or Europe, that Brisbane has a sub-tropical climate and the ambient temperature in the workshop at time of testing was 36 degrees C. Geez it was hot when fitting the IC!

Obviously in winter or in a cooler climate or even when i take it out onto the road these figures would be considerably higher (it certainly felt so when i took it for a run anyway)

At the flywheel, I am now producing 281nm of torque and 199 hp. This is interesting because the JCW tuning kit is claiming 17hp and 10nm. If these figures are accurate (and in the 200k i drove with just the JCW kit on i kinda doubt it) It means i can claim that the Alta IC and IC pipe replacement kit added another 31nm and 7hp. All i can say is- no way. The IC made a massive difference in the way this beast drives. The only escape hatch the JCW kit has is that its supposed to work optimally after 1000kms so i guess the only way i will know that is to stick it back on the rollers sometime after the Byron bay ClubMini run i guess. Geez, if it does improve it'll be scary! Bring on the cooler weather! Saddle up!

Please remember that all my calculations related to torque are based upon an assumed diff ratio of 4.1 and an assumed 4th Gear 1:1 ratio. If anyone can provide me with figures that are different and claimed by BMW, please let me know and i will be able to recalculate more accurately. If you do have them, please let me know where you found them as i have been looking for a week now and my dealer has not been able to help.

Having driven the car now, it is clear to me that I need to get some rubber that will do a better job.

The run-flat tyres and wheels, even with the DSC on, spin far too freely now in too many gears and the blue meanie has a real rally feel and sound to it now. I have some whistle coming through and a few other pleasing noises coming into the cabin when the peddle is mashed so if anyone is considering the change to an R56, you won’t miss your supercharger whine too much! See you in my rear view mirror.
