What colour is your car?
I have also then chrome painted body colour on the bumpers.
i know you can order black plastic inserts for the front and rear bumpers (which looked alright on a black car), which is what i did on the rear and then had them painted when the car was in the shop having some other work done. On the front they painted over the chrome stripes and it has held up well.
Not sure what steps they took tho.
