I used to be think like you until one technican told me another story. (Say 10W-60) The first degree is the protection on 0 degree C and the second degree is the protection on high temperature. No one has said high degree must equal to thick.
This degree is just a measure/standard. Lot of brands have 0w-40 oil (half synthetic or full synthetic), but they are all different. Not because of the degree, as they are all the same, but the materials inside.
So, cheap oil might have the "high degree equal to thick" problem. However, it should not be problem of good engine oil.
One point I have not mentioned. BMW HK uses MOBIL ONE. Porsche use Selinna (someone tells me this. I could not verify this since I dont have a Porsche) If ture, this could tell the difference.
Try it yourself and you could feel the difference, if any.
