The pre-facelift first generation MINI had the reverse light in the bumper and the rear fog lights were part of the main rear light cluters.

When the facelift came about in 2004, the fog lights were reduced to one and moved to the bumper. The reverse light became part of the main rear light clusters, giving you two reverse lights instead of one.

I can't see no reason why you couldn't make the fog light a red bulb and put it behind a clear lense.
