For those of you who can't wait...
Google Maps has
updated satellite imagery of Mt. Washington, the Auto Road, and the Base where our afternoon festivities will commence at 3:00 on Saturday, June 28th.
Rt. 16 runs diagonally from the bottom middle area to the top right. In the upper right quadrant you can see the Auto Road Base. At the left-middle is the Summit of Mt. Washington. At the lower right is the Wildcat Mtn Ski area.
Click on the "Map" button on the top right and you will see the Auto Road. Click back to "Satellite", zoom-in, and trace the Auto Road journey from Base to Summit. It helps the simulation if you make buzzing motor sounds with your pursed lips as you trace the Auto Road.
Remember, this journey is eight miles long and climbs 4,000 feet in elevation from Base to Summit. Oh yeah, and in the
Climb to the Clouds race from the Base to the Summit in 1998, Frank Sprongl of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, finished with a record-breaking time of 6:41.99 seconds. We will take a bit longer than that to climb to the Summit.
