Good point. I do get a car allowance to put towards buying/running the car of my choice. So my mileage rate is essentially purely for putting fuel in it, should also cover some wear and tear but doesn't at the moment. If you do not get a car allowance then your mileage rate should be far far higher, more like the tax free rates. Your car will tumble in value, trust me I know, and you should be compensated for it somehow.
