In our 2004 Cooper there is no ISOFIX. How big a problem is that for the transport of small children?

Is ISOFIX just practial (allowing the fixation of child-seat withoug using the rear seat-belt) or is it also a safety-factor?

If the first is the case, I'm not worried. But if ISOFIX is safer than fixing the seat with the seat-belt, It's not so good...
