It isconfusing; as there are at many different operating modes for the transmission, before adding kick-down, and the manual is not necessarily clear:.
  1. "D" selected by stick, sport mode off. "D" shows on tach display. Automatically selects 2nd-6th, focus is economy.
  2. "D" selected by stick, sport mode off, manual up/down shift by paddle. "M" shows on tach display. Temporary steptronic mode. After 8 seconds without high load, reverts to automatic "D" mode.
  3. "+/-" selected by stick sport mode off. "DS" shows on tach display. Automatically selects 1st-5th, focus is power.
  4. "+/-" selected by stick, sport mode off, manual up/down shift by stick or paddle. "M" shows on tach display. Semi-manual steptronic mode; trans will shift automatcially to prevent stall or over-rev, and will downshift to (or start in) 2nd. Otherwise manual steptronic shifting.
  5. "D" selected by stick, sport mode on. "DS" shows on tach display. Transmission shift points are similar to mode 3, above. Steering stiffened, throttle response increased.
  6. "D" selected by stick, sport mode on, manual up/down shift by paddle. "M" shows on tach display. This is the same as mode 2, above, with steering stiffened and throttle response increased.
  7. "+/-" selected by stick, sport mode on. "DS" shows on tach display. Appears to be exactly the same as mode 5, above.
  8. "+/-" selected by stick, sport mode on, manual up/down shift by stick or paddle. This is the same as mode 4, with stiffened steering and throttle response increased.
