Exhaust very sooty in run-in!

I'm not sure whether this should be in the faults/fixes section, but it's more related to the Cooper S and the run-in I'm experiencing. It isn't such a problem, but I want to enquiry if it's normal.

At the moment, I'm almost 200 miles into run-in. I'm not driving the car very hard at most of times (very rarely peaking over 4250rpm etc). I am due to clean my car for the first time tomorrow, but I've noticed the exhaust inside and on the bottom of the outer lip has got VERY sooty and black. Is this normal in run-in or in general? I've not noticed it with any other Cooper S or car.

So just wondering whether it's anything to worry about or not. The car has been running fine as far as I know.
