DIY TomTom 2 SatNav Fitted for under £400

Took Delivery of one of the first Version 2 TomTom SatNav`s for Pocket PC this week from TOTALPDA for £199 + vat.
I`d read the write up on SatNav systems in Computeractive Magazine a couple of weeks ago.
I immediatlly offered to buy a colleagues Compaq 3660 PDA which I knew he had`nt used for over a year for £60 , eventually settling for £85 after lengthy haggling.
-Are PDA`s the most useless gadgets around or what-??? (until now that is}
A search on MINI2 revealed an excellent write up by
3GGG which offered great insights into the fitting of the system.

However, Instead of fitting the device next to the CD player area, where I would have to glance down to get info or change views via tapping of the screen, I decided to fit it in the corner of the Screen like CHD did with his NavMan Device.

The screen is now clearly in view at all times & isnt too much of a distraction.

The antennae sits nicely in the centre of the dash behind that Red LED device -is it a BMW bugging device ??
When I first connected it up, although being told in the instructions that I may have to wait for up to 45 minutes for an Initial one-off satellite Fix, I was pleasently suprised when it got a strong fix on 6 sat`s in under 4 minutes.

The NavMan Device is supposed to have the advantage over the TomTom in that it sits in its own GPS sleeve & therefore has less cables to connect, BUT I found that by Routing the cables in the way I did {no tools or Sweat required} then only the Ipaq Connecting cable is Visible {Same as Navman}.
The TomTom 2 has the added bonus over its predecessor with 3D mapping {roads nearby are wider than those further away} -- a great illusion that actually works.
The female Voice is Clear, Accurate, & do`snt tell me to slow down when Im using my speed for Safety reasons!
