That's probably fair comment. I used a few different solutions* in my BMW before getting the Intravee, but I had nav in that car and in my Mini, I also have Alpine DAB (not that it's any use in NZ), and I had an Alpine iPod interface already so it was just the cost of the IV2, which on the beta programme was not that much.

It's probably a good call to go with the cheaper option unless you want to use some of the other functionality like DAB if I understand correctly that it has the same level of integration with the OE controls as the Intravee.

*I tried the ICE>Link Plus which was utter, unmitigated rubbish and I used the Harmon Kardon Drive+Play which was excellent, but I don't like stuff stuck on the dash/centre console. I've also used the Pioneer version of the Alpine interface and it makes the ICE>Link Plus look good!
