Yup - that's the thread I was thinking about. ANd here it is:

It's about 5 posts down when '10 pence short' talks about what happened. If you've not read it, I suggest you do.

He then goes on to explain a few other things about his situation. I've mis-remembered slightly in that I thought he'd killed the other guy. He didn't, but neither of their lives will be the same again.
