I am sure BMW must have thought of this when they implemented the auto start stop, so I guess the water pump must be adequate to protect the turbo. So if you let it idle for a while you are just wasting fuel, and negating the whole point of the auto start stop?

CORRECT...........the cooling pump turns on/off automatically. The pump is very quiet in operation, all you can hear is a faint buzzing. When the car has been driven hard and you park it, the pump will run for quite a long period especially in hot weather.
