Exclamation Yellow Sludge in Radiator

Following on from my crash a month ago...

BMW rang me today - car will be ready to be collected Monday lunch time, but along with some more bad news.

When replacing / removing / reinstalling the radiator, they found it had yellow / orange sludge in it. They've advised that after I pick it up, I should get it booked in ASAP for a service inspection. The bodyshop engineer thinks it may be down to a blown head gasket, but can't be 100%, and said it may just be nothing. However, this means more cost - both for the initial check, and for whatever the problem is Lately, my car has been nothing but a money pit - £100+ for service, £175 for replacement control arm bushes (needed replacing), £560 excess for the crash and now this. Uck! Joys of motoring I suppose...

Anyone have any ideas on what it could be? The car had a service approx. 2 months ago - should they have picked it up then? The bodyshop advises that it's not crash damage.
