Yep, know that scenario very well. Twenty years ago I had a head-on prang in my 1976 Leyland Mini. Apart from numerous broken bones and internal injuries, the accelerator pedal pierced through the side of my right ankle and embedded in my heel. For those who've never seen the original Mini accelerator pedal, it was a small steel plate about an inch square welded onto the end of a steel rod about half an inch in diameter. It had to be cut with boltcutters to get me out of the car, and was later removed in surgery. I still have the pedal as a souvenir keyring!

BTW, my Mini was in a damn sight worse state that the R56 that Darren Berry crashed in.
