We brits love our weather and its variances and then all seem surprised by it!!!

Skid pan stuff, really valuable, but more valuable coaching with Institute of Advanced Motorists, reason being, when your in a skid its too late to avoid it, avoiding a skid comes from better awareness of driving.

Now many think of Advanced driving as defensive driving and thus it slows them down, if its done in line with the goals, it actually helps you go quicker, when its safe to do so, but cuts down on the risks.

That said, skid pans or skid trolleys, are very valuable as none of us is perfect and even with good driving something could go wrong, and this training will help you get out of it safely.

In this kind of weather, good appreciation of the road surfaces, awareness of "microclimates", and attention to what is happening around, should help make the driving safe. And I am in favour of finding empty parking facilities or industrial sites with ice and snow and having a bit of a razz eound, so your not a nuisance or danger, but can find out how the car handles and have a bit of fun, J turns are great on ice!!!!
