Regarding illegal spacing, you get a fine and they photograph the plate and send it to the DVLA who then send you a letter telling you to stop being naughty or they will take it off you. I think its on a '3 strikes and you're out' basis.

Saw a nice plate - '1234 GP' but it's in the region of £4k!
