Seen threads like this before - and since reading them generally keep my car in gear on most inclines.

As said above, you have to use the clutch to start the car, so there's no real reason not to do it.

It also does say it in the highway code, along with moving the wheel so the car doesn't roll out into traffic.

It becomes 2nd nature after a while.
