Here is what we have done - checked to make sure that both latches in the boot are latched - checked to make sure that the boot shelf is in position correctly - checked fuses. When I push the close button the motor that is in the back on the drivers (US) side starts to make noise then stops and the sun roof closes like normal as it's smaller motor which is in the roof seems fine.
As we are at least 6 hours from our nearest dealer I called them and the service rider says that I need to replace the drive locking mechanism. They also say that this is such a unusual repair that the part isn't even in the US - it has to come from "Germany" So I wonder if that is really it.
Can anyone give me any help?
Also, on another post there was this:
I also inquired at the dealer about the extended warranty comment and they seemed to know nothing about it. Is there anything in writing that I might be able to dig up on this.
It seems that this type of problem is a big one on the late 04 early 05 builds - in fact there is one owner in Colorado keeping track of people who have sent him their name. I am sure he would love to hear from others.
Sorry this is so long!
Thanks in advance.
I have fixed the problem that you are having - opning to sunroof section then not opening fully.
You must check the end of the "BOW" which is the metal strengthener that runs across the roof just above the driver's head.
The ends of the bow fit into tiny little plastic bushes.
If one of the ends it out of the bush then the roof will not open because the sensors think that the roof is out of alignment.
My dealer's service department told me that the bushing was broken and it was allowing the Bow to slip out and causing the roof to stop. They told me that the bush is not a Spare Part and that the only fix would be the next higher assembly which is the COMPLETE ROOF costing $FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!!!!!
Needless to say, I did not get a new roof, I had a look at the bushing and refitted the Bow into it then rotated it until the "broken section was facing towards the rear of the car.
Since I did that the Roof has operated flawlessly hundreds of times.
the easiest way to see the end of teh Bow and the bushing is to open the roof to the Sunroof section then get out of the car and check just above the "split" in the side rail. You will be able to lift the roof material and see the end of teh Bow.
