I bought my 2005 Mini Cooper 6 months ago, do about 20 miles a week, so light user! My gear box went 4 weeks ago, and of course only 3 month warantee. My garage has got a new gear box , but having mega problems getting the casing/cage, He is also trying to keep my bill at the £1700 pounds already quoted. It is doing my head in, shopping on my bike etc.....If anyone out there
can offer any help or advice. My last car was MX5 Mazda for ten years and all I did was put petrol in it!
I am new this site. thanks Liz.

Hello mate, doing a gearbox on the Mini Cooper with time and labour that job will take and i would recommend having work on minis for years is just to bite the bullet and go to bmw and buy a new gearbox as a full unit and get the warranty. Because if you rebuild that gearbox and 6 months later it breaks your going to left with a big bill again. It would not be a job to skint out on parts

Hi ya

What's was the problem with the gearbox

The getrag boxes are normally not to bad just make shore there not trying to fit a midland gearbox or internals
£1700 is abit rich IMO not so long ago I fitted a getrag six speed to a cooper I got all the bits second hand £600 and there are a lot of bits you need driveshafts flywheels clutch etc
You can get a second hand box £350-£400 ish or a recon trade for around £650-£700 ish
And it's not a big job to do

These guys do a 12 month warrantee
